The Dakota Hotel in Glasgow is one of the latest glazing projects completed by Contracting Scotland. Located at Eurocentral, one of Scotland’s major business parks, it is only the second being built of a new hotel chain, which offers budget luxury with style.
The Dakota concept was created by Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and Ken McCulloch, owner of Malmaison hotels. Their first hotel was recently opened in Nottingham. The black metal clad and dark tinted glass hotel has been built to a futuristic design exclusively created for Dakota hotels by Rio Architects. Each Dakota hotel has the same characteristics and dramatic exterior but is adapted to meet the particular needs of its site and clientele in terms of capacity and layout.
Contracting Scotland were awarded the glazing project as a preferred supplier of Dawn Construction based on expertise and capability in the installation of complex fenestration projects of this size. The team were also able to advise on the structural requirements for the unusual curtain walling feature to the bar and brasserie area, where it sits proud of the structure.
Glazing consisted of Technal Trame Horizontale curtain walling with concealed vents to provide a streamlined finish and Fxi52 windows. Double glazed units were fitted with a 6mm SGG PARSOL grey outer and 6mm SGG PLANITHERM inner, with 6mm SGG EMALIT dark grey to privacy areas. Solaglas also installed Dorma revolving doors in the adjoining office building.
