Glass installation specialists Solaglas Contracting Midlands has created a curved curtain wall façade for Enfield Civic Centre, a key part of the PalaceXchange retail development being built by Costain Limited.
The prestigious project also required Solaglas Contracting Midlands to install windows and doors for the entire Civic Centre as well as curtain walling and windows for the main retail area which joins the Link Bridge, Retail North, South and West malls.
To create the design produced by Reid Architects, Solaglas Contracting also had to find a way to fix curtain wall transoms without the use of mullions.
Neil Sterling of Reid Architects said: “We had very specific technical requirements for the project which incorporated a large expanse of glazing as well as curved curtain walling for the public face of the building. Solaglas was able to meet these requirements and was also extremely pro-active in developing a solution which complied with our ‘avanti’ based design development system.”
Manny Ajuwon of Costain continues: “Solaglas’ whole approach was extremely professional. They provided design expertise, delivered all products on time and prior to the commencement of work and had high project management standards. They are one of the most proactive glazing contractors on our supply chain.”
Technal curtain walling was specified with curved doubled glazed units manufactured by Solaglas Bishop Auckland using SGG Securit. SGG Coolite and SGG Planitherm were specified for other glazing.
PalaceXchange links three of Enfield’s largest retail outlets – Marks & Spencer, Pearsons department store and Woolworths – and provides an additional 14,800 square metres of retail space for 23 new retail units as well as more than 600 square metres of space for leisure facilities.
