Glass installation specialist Solaglas Contracting South has returned to school to provide the curtain walling, windows and automatic and sliding doors for the Swindon Schools Learning Campus – an extensive project comprising five schools in two locations.
Solaglas was appointed because of its wealth of experience in handling large, complex projects, ability to resource this size of project and its financial stability. Design of the two primary schools, two special schools and one secondary school was provided by ACP Architects Architect’s Co Partnership Ltd (ACP).
The glazing element was managed smoothly by Solaglas providing the project’s contractors with a flexible service which was able to adapt to changes in the building schedule.
Road access to the site was only available around the perimeter of the campus and storage facilities were a significant distance away from the installation site, causing logistical issues. To overcome the problems created by a lack of access for delivery vehicles, a forklift was brought on site and the Solaglas supervisor was trained to operate it.
A combination of 6mm SGG SECURIT and 6mm SGG PLANITHERM FUTURE N were specified to meet safety and environmental requirements. Vanceva coloured interlayers were used elsewhere to create feature-façades in a variety of locations including the dining halls, hydrotherapy room and sports hall. Technal FX-I 65 windows, MC curtain walling and CD doors were specified.
