Solaglas Contracting comprises five regional businesses which provide a dedicated glazing service to the UK construction market. Typical projects undertaken range in size from £5k to £5-million. Dedicated Specialist Works teams focus on the smaller, faster-turnaround projects.
Projects can be managed from initial façade advice through to glazing design, value engineering and final installation on site. We prefer to be involved early on in a project in order to assist with the initial design and structural engineering. This helps to reduce any risks and enables us to provide the best solution for all involved.
Initial Enquiry
You will meet a member of the Commercial Team to discuss your project and the type of work to be undertaken. At this stage a budget quote can be provided, based on minimum requirements.
Estimation
Next stage is the enquiry, which is passed to our experienced Estimating Team. They can assist with specifications to ensure that designs are technically achievable, working with Construction Planning and Architects and providing alternatives or value added elements if required. Normally, this estimating process requires detailed architects drawings
Design
Once a formal order is received, the drawings and specification are passed to experienced Solaglas Designers or Draughtsmen to develop the optimum fit and conformance to legal obligations and CDM requirements.
Project Management
Once drawings are approved a handover meeting takes place and the project moves to a dedicated Project Team, selected to match experience to the project. The Team will co-ordinate fabrication and material delivery to site; communicate with all involved and form the specialist installation team.
Health & Safety
A detailed Method Statement will be drawn up and formal Risk Assessments on all activities will take place, with support from a trained Health & Safety Advisor. Once on site, induction courses will be run for all installers, including tool box talks and a site Health & Safety file will be set up for records.
Fabrication
The selected aluminium profiles are fabricated according to the project requirements in dedicated ISO 9001:2000 accredited manufacturing facilities by trained and experienced Fabricators, often using CNC machinery. The mullions and transoms are powder coated or anodised to the design specification and then cut from sections of aluminium alloy.
Installation
When a project starts on site, regular progress updates take place to co-ordinate activities with the delivery of materials. A Site Supervisor is employed to oversee the project and to organise each aspect.
Follow Up
Once installation is complete, an Operations and Maintenance Manual is issued to explain how to maintain the products and who to contact in the event of any queries. All customers are then asked to complete a customer survey so that performance can be monitored against each element of the project.
